Forum Moderation

Enabling forums

Forums are enabled per topic. To turn a forum on or off:

  1. Go to Topics and click Edit on the topic.
  2. Find the Discussion Forum setting and set it to Yes or No.
  3. Click Save.

When enabled, subscribed members will see a Discussion link on that topic and can post messages.

The Forum Moderation menu item only appears when at least one topic has its forum enabled.

Viewing forum posts

Go to Forum Moderation in the Manage menu, or click Forum Posts on a topic from the Topics page. You'll see all posts for that topic in conversation order.

Flagged posts

Members can flag posts for your attention. Flags fall into two categories:

  • Important — shown with a green banner. The member wants to highlight something positive or noteworthy (e.g. a safety concern, a good suggestion).
  • Spam, Offensive, Off-topic, Other — shown with a red banner. The member is reporting a problem with the post.

Members can also flag their own posts with an alert to draw your attention to something that needs an official response.

When viewing a flagged post you can:

  • Dismiss the flag — removes the flag but keeps the post visible.
  • Remove the post — hides the post from all members.
The dashboard shows a count of flagged posts needing review. Check it regularly to keep forums healthy.

Removing a post

Click the Remove button on any post to hide it from members. Removed posts are kept in the database but are no longer visible in the forum.

Posting as your organisation

Staff can post official messages in any forum. These appear with a distinct "moderator" style so members can tell them apart from regular member posts. Use this for announcements, corrections, or responses to member questions.

Banning a member

If a member is repeatedly posting inappropriate content, you can ban them from all forums:

  1. Click the Ban button on one of their posts, or go to the ban management section in Forum Moderation.
  2. Set an optional end date for the ban, or leave it open-ended.
  3. The member will no longer be able to post in any forum. They can still read posts.

To lift a ban early, find the member in the ban list and click Remove Ban.
